Publications & Successes
October, 2008
Lisa wins 1st Place in Dragonfly Publishing's 2008 Cover Art Contest. The publisher required that the cover reflect a particular story they had in mind, and they posted a portion of the manuscript.
August, 2009
"Thank You Story", by author Susan Abrams and illustrated by Lisa J. Michaels, is released through Dragon Pencil Publishing. It is available for purchase at; www.customstory.inc.
June, 2007
Lisa is awarded 2nd Place in The ABC Children's Picture Book Competition. An article about the competition was featured in Flavor & Fortune Magazine, along with publication of Lisa's winning illustration.
September, 2007, The Progress-Index News in Philadelphia published a similar article.
March/April, 2006 - Wee Ones Magazine
Illustrations published to accompany the magazine's feature story, "Sam's Unlucky Day".
May/June, 2006 - Wee Ones Magazine
Illustrations by L.J. Michaels were published to accompany the magazines story, "Jacob the Storyteller". In addition, Lisa received recognition as the "Spotlight Guest" and her "kid-friendly" bio was published as well.
June 2003
Lisa joined the SCBWI, and began researching the children's publishing industry. It's a long road to the first publication!
December, 2008
SCBWI "Bulletin" Magazine published Lisa's submission for their feature article,
"An Insider's View".
January, 2010
"How to Write and Publish a Successful Children's Book" is released by Atlantic Publishing,
containing the foreword and four-page article/case study written by Lisa J. Michaels.
It is available through Atlantic Publishing's website and Amazon.com.
January, 2009
"Thought Bites" is published by author, executive coach and life architect, Bobbi French Gemma. It contains over 40 black and white spot illustrations by Lisa, and is available on request at www.thegemmagroup.com
2011 marked the completion of "Alphey Loves Letters", available through Castlebridge Books.
The March/April Edition of the SCBWI Bulletin Magazine, published Lisa's two page article, "Shopping Online Critique Groups".
Stories for Children Magazine re-opened in the Spring of 2011, featuring a cover illustration, interior feature story illustrations, and a coloring page by L.J. Michaels.
2012 has begun, with yet another of Lisa's illustrations scheduled for release in the Feb/March edition of Stories for Children Magazine.
In addition, she just finished illustrations for a new picture book, titled "Come Fish With Me", by author Jim Baragar.
